About Us
Biscayne Chapter, NSDAR, was founded on Tuesday, February 18, 1947, at the Flamingo Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida.
Guests of Honor included the Florida State Regent and Florida State Vice Regent, Everglades Chapter Regent and Coral Gables Chapter Regent. Thirty attendees were present.
Mrs. Harold F. Machlan presided as the Organizing Regent. Mrs. Machlan was later elected Honorary Vice President General – the first from Florida!

Biscayne Chapter, NSDAR, currently has over 100 active chapter members, aged 22 to 101!
We meet monthly from September to May for chapter meetings and luncheons, service projects, conservation projects and social gatherings.
Annually, we sponsor an American History Essay contest for eighth graders. We also present the DAR Good Citizen and Youth Citizenship Awards as well as sponsor Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) cadets in area high schools. Our dedicated members volunteer time and give donations of needed items to the Veterans Administration (VA) hospital.
In 2024, we were awarded first place regionally and second place nationally for our annual chapter project. This is our sixth year assisting local women veterans who have experienced homelessness currently living in VA subsidized housing. We funded 125 Target gift cards to ensure the children of these deserving women had holiday gifts.
